Then, you realize that making these foods from scratch would involve painstakingly careful measurements, kneading until your arms hurt, and waiting around for dough to rise. Suddenly you’re not so hungry. We’ve all been there. Enter: Two ingredient dough. Our secret weapon. Our best friend. Our two-ingredient superstar.
I can tell you with absolute certainty that two-ingredient dough has changed my cooking game. Before this magical recipe pranced into my life, I had no qualms about going out and spending money any time I wanted a bagel for breakfast or a pizza for dinner.
Now? I have this little voice inside my head that pipes up to ask me whether I really need that specific bagel from the shop down the street when I now know that I can just as easily whip up a bagel on the spot. 9 times out of 10, this voice in my head (and my two-ingredient dough) saves me some cash. Me? I love whipping up these delicious Sesame Seed Bagels, as well as pizzas, breadsticks, English muffins, garlic knots, and pretzels.
The other great thing about these two ingredient dough bagels - they have more protein than traditional bagels and can be customized any way you like. In fact, you could make all different flavors in one single batch. Just add different toppings.
To make these fluffy bagels, you will need just 3 simple ingredients:
- Self-rising flour. Commonly found in almost any grocery store, self-rising flour is a combination of all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. It’s a fantastic time-saver and one of my favorite baking hacks!
- Greek yogurt. This creamy protein-packed ingredient adds just the right amount of moisture to our dough to produce perfectly fluffy bagels.
- Sesame seeds. I love the mild nutty flavor of sesame seeds! They also add a ton of heart-healthy fats to our homemade bagels.
How to Make Two-Ingredient Dough
Two-ingredient dough is made with Greek yogurt and self-rising flour, and is used to form the base of many common baked goods like pizza dough and bagels. The Greek yogurt is used to add moisture and help form the flour into dough, while self-rising flour is exactly as it sounds—it rises without any additional ingredients. It’s made from a pre-combined mixture of all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.
Self-rising flour can be found in most grocery stores, but can also be made from scratch if needed with the following ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ¾ teaspoon salt

If you’re looking to switch things up, try out one of these recipe variations:
- Cinnamon sugar bagels. Mix together your desired amounts of cinnamon and brown sugar, then add the mixture to your dough and work it in until it’s been thoroughly dispersed throughout the dough. Voilà, sweet cinnamon-y goodness! You could even throw in some raisins
- Make everything bagels. If you have everything bagel seasoning, that works great here in place of the sesame seeds. If not, you can make your own with sesame seeds, salt, poppy seeds, dried onion, and dried garlic.
- Make poppy seed bagels: Switch out the sesame seeds for poppy seeds.
- Homemade onion bagels: Add onion powder to the two ingredient dough to add some onion flavor and then sprinkle dehydrated onion on top for those crispy onion bits.

These bagels work with all the traditional bagel toppings - cream cheese, butter, peanut butter, or your favorite fruit jam. You can also get more creative and make the most delicious bagel sandwiches:
