Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, sliced thin
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 14 oz fire roasted diced tomatoes (or tomato sauce)
  • 1 tsp Calabrian chilies (or red pepper flakes, more to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil

Step 1 Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Toss in a large bowl with salt and red pepper flakes.

Step 2 Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for about 1-2 minutes per side until just cooked through. They will be added to the sauce after, so make sure not to overcook. Remove and set aside.

Step 3 Add the olive oil to the skillet. Once hot add the onions and cook for 4-6 minutes until beginning to soften. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Step 4 Add the wine to the pan and use it to deglaze the pan, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.

Step 5 Add the tomatoes, Calabrian chilies (or red pepper flakes), and Italian seasoning. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes. It should thicken slightly. Taste and adjust heat level if needed.
