What you need:

  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional )
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 lb top sirloin beef, trimmed and sliced thin
  • 1 onion, sliced thin
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced thin

Step 1 In a small bowl, stir together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Then stir in the garlic, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.

Step 2 Heat a wok or skillet on high heat. Swirl in half the oil and add the beef in a single layer. Cook for about 1 minute and then stir. Cook 1-2 more minuets and remove from pan. It should be just cooked so it doesn’t get rubbery.

Step 3 Add remaining oil to the pan. Add the onions and pepper and cook for 4 to 5 minutes.

Step 4 Add the beef and sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes until thickened. Season if needed and serve.
