Recipe

Crisps and crumbles are some of my favorite breakfast and desserts around, but on a low carb or Paleo diet they can be hard to replace. Between the oats, flour, and sugar - they are pretty much off limits when prepared in the traditional way. Luckily if we make a few simple changes and use almond flour, lower sugar fruit, and Stevia - we end up with a delicious, more nutritious crisp.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh strawberries (or other berries)
  • 3/4 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/16 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. butter, cut into small cubes (or ghee or coconut oil)
  • 1 U packet Stevia (or to taste)

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Toss the berries with 1 tsp. water and Stevia if you are using.
  3. Add the berries to a prepared 8 X 8 dish.
  4. Mix together the almond flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add the butter and mush together with your hands to form the crumble topping.
  5. Sprinkle on top of berries. Bake for 25 minutes until top is browned and berries are beginning to burst.
