How long did it take you to lose the weight? 2 years
Lightbulb Moment: When I had to wear shorts in November because none of my jeans fit anymore.
How did you do it? I started on Weight Watchers. I am currently not on WW as a paid subscriber, but I still follow it and use what I learned. At the beginning, I used WW online because I was too afraid to go to the meetings. At first I simply tried to change my eating habits... I had a horrible tendency of snacking and snacking so cutting back on that was the hardest. For the first 6 months or so I did not have a gym membership so I would walk around the park or do a similar activity. When I got my gym membership I really started to change. I walked on the treadmill at an incline (high incline with a 3.0-3.5 mph speed ). It started to become a habit. I became so accustomed to my eating and exercise routine that it became easy. Pushing through on the days I did not want to be there was the most important thing I learned. This changed my lifestyle. I was not focused on when my next meal was, but more focused on enjoying the little things instead!
What was the biggest challenge you faced? How did you overcome it? I have a tendency of giving up on myself and go overboard eating wise. With the giving up issue, I still struggle every single day. I just remind myself that I am worth it and remind myself of how far I have come. When it comes to overeating I try my hardest to remember that I won't feel good after I eat all the nasty junk!
What was the single thing that helped you most along the way, especially when things got tough? I try to look at old pictures and remind myself how far I've come. Giving up is the easiest thing to do so I try to remind myself that I am stronger than that. I want to prove myself and everyone else that has doubts wrong.
How has your life changed since losing the weight? I have become genuinely happy again. I am confident and proud of myself. I still struggle with insecurities sometimes because I still find myself looking through the eyes of a 331 pound girl, but as I branch out and try new things she is going away.
Exercise routine: I LOVE to do zumba or any dance classes. I also like to walk on the treadmill at a high incline (it burns more calories than running!)
Favorite breakfast: I love to eat egg whites or a protein shake. If I don't eat a protein filled breakfast I am hungry ALL DAY!
Favorite sweet snack: I like to eat grapes and other fruits when they are in season. I also LOVE ice cream so I sometimes eat skinny cow ice cream sandwiches because they take the edge off my sweet tooth.
Favorite dinner: I like making baked chicken or tilapia and pairing it with pasta or rice and a Greek salad.
Favorite healthy restaurant or fast food find: Chick Fil A is my go to place! Their salads and grilled chicken nuggets are awesome.
Advice for someone just starting: Don't look at weight loss as a job or something that has an end date. Take it one day at a time and don't give up on yourself. Look at your weight loss in 5 pound increments instead of trying to lose 100 pounds all at once because this will overwhelm you!
Anything else that you would like to share: Believe in yourself and lean on others to keep you accountable. You can do anything you set your mind to... you just need a little faith
