How long did it take you to lose the weight? A year and a half, and currently still go up and down within ten pounds.
Lightbulb Moment: We had a health screening at work (we have one every year) and my results said my metabolic age was 47 (I was 30 at the time) and I had high cholesterol. If I didn't change things, I would start having medical problems. Also, I was just tired of being embarrassed of myself.
How did you do it? Weight Watchers. It is not a fad diet, but teaches you portion control and how to eat and still live. I learned if you stay on the outside aisles of the grocery store, you will stick to the healthy foods! Think about it - all of the meats, veggies, fruits (all that you should be eating for a healthy diet, are on the outside isles).
What was the biggest challenge you faced? How did you overcome it? Exercising was the hardest for me and having to make myself get up and do it. Once I started, even if it was ten minutes here and there, it helped. I was a former athlete so it didn't take long before my drive came back. It then became addicting to do a little more everyday, and now I can handle anything that is thrown at me. It is hard at first because you are heavy, but just start out small and walk. As you start to lose weight and build strength, exercising becomes easy and almost a habit.
What was the single thing that helped you most along the way, especially when things got tough? I would look at old pictures of myself and remind myself that I did not want to be that person. Anytime I had a low moment, I would pull a picture out and it would put me right back on track.
How has your life changed since losing the weight? I am back to my old self!! I am fun and outgoing and love life again!! I especially enjoy how I am not scared to try any new activity because I know I now have the strength and endurance to handle it and not out of shape. Also, it is nice being hit on :;
Exercise routine: Hip Hop aerobics 3 to 4 times a week; Zumba every now and then; walk an hour and half every day. I never used a gym the whole time losing weight.
Favorite breakfast - Greek Yogurt, cheese stick, fruit
Favorite grab and go snack: Cheese sticks, pickles, fruit, anything from FiberOne, or popcorn
Favorite dinner: Rotisserie chicken from Wal-Mart with green beans or a grilled steak
Advice for someone just starting: Take small steps. Focus on five pounds at a time and not the big picture of how much you want to lose. Even if you can walk ten minutes a day, do it!!!!!!! Every bit counts. It takes patience, determination, motivation, and support from friends and family.
Anything else that you would like to share: It is a daily struggle and never ends just because you reach your goals.
