Summer time can be tricky because there are usually lots of outdoor events that usually involve lots of high calorie drinks margaritas, sweet tea, punch, you get the idea. Here are some ideas to lighten up your favorite summer drinks
What are your favorite WW friendly summer drinks?
Michelada, 2 P+My favorite way to drink beer in the summer is by making a Michelada. Start by lining the rim of your glass with salt. Then add 1/8 cup lime juice, and your favorite combination of Worcestershire, hot sauce, and Maggi seasoning. I like about 1 tsp of the Worcestershire and hot sauce, and 1/2 tsp of Maggi seasoning which kind of like soy sauce and used frequently in Mexican and Asian recipes. Add a bunch of ice and 3/4 cup of Mexican beer, like Corona Light, and you have the perfect summer cocktail. You can also add a little tomato juice if you like. Then go outside right away and enjoy.
Fruit Infused Water, 0 P+Lately I have been a little obsessed with fruit infused water since I bought this amazing pitcher that allows you easily infuse water with any type of fruit. I have been using lots of cucumbers, limes, strawberries, raspberries, and usually some fresh mint or herbs. Perfect for summer and to have in your fridge for a 0 point refresher.
Wine Spritzers with Fruit, 2 P+Much like the Michelada, I like to find ways to lighten up summer drinks like beer and white wine so I don’t feel limited to having just one. Whenever I drink white wine in the summer, I replace half of the wine with sparking water and then add some whole fruit or pureed fruit. Usually whatever I have around peaches, strawberries, watermelon, and even limes work great. I usually use a sauvignon Blanc, but any crisp summer white will work.
Lemon Verbena Iced Tea, 0 P+This is one of my favorite summertime iced tea recipes from Cooking Light. The lemon verbena adds a great, herby lemon flavor that makes this tea stand out from a crowd. To make it 0 points, I either eliminate the sugar altogether or use Splenda instead.
Agua Fresca de Pepino, 1 P+This cucumber agua fresca recipe is Delicious, with a capital D. It combines cucumber and lime juice, with a touch of sugar. I usually don’t use the serrano pepper in mine, but if you like things spicy give it a try. These are also great with a touch of tequila or gin.
