I have already gotten four (count 'em four!) emails this morning for post holiday cleanses. It's almost like they can see me teetering on the edge of eating every cookie, cake, and delicious holiday treat that seem to be everywhere. And I really mean everywhere. Yesterday at the grocery store they had a complete five course holiday meal for sampling with three desserts. Really? I don't know if anyone has this kind of willpower. I am really trying to channel balance here and eat healthy during the day if I know I want to indulge that night, but the holiday smorgasbord at the grocery store. I didn't plan on that.
Onto today's Friday Five. As I sit here listening to the She & Him holiday mix (I'm obsessed), I thought it would be fun to share what we are all up to for the holidays. Share what you are most excited about, what you can't wait to cook, what you are listening to, what you will be doing, anything!
1.The holidays always remind just how blessed I am to have the family I do. Living 3,000 miles away from them, there is nothing that makes me more excited than heading home for the holidays. We'll laugh a lot, I'll cry buckets when I leave, we'll eat lobster and steamers and so many other delicious treats, and just be together. Honestly I love it all - from the quick trips to the store with my Mom to morning coffee when everyone is there to big meals and long, late night conversations. I can't wait.
2. This weekend I plan on making some last minute DIY gifts for friends and neighbors. I plan to play holiday music, drink holiday coffee until an appropriate hour for a glass of mulled wine, and then try my best shot at these: Chalkboard Cheese Plate, Matzo Brittle, Homemade Vanilla Extract, and these cute Scrabble Ornaments.
3. One thing I am really excited to spend some time doing this holiday break is working on the Slender Kitchen recipes and the new meal plans area. Normally I am working on the blog on top of my regular job so having some dedicated time to work on it is exciting. And I really love doing this so it doesn't feel like work at all. I have also been talking to some friends who are going to start food blogs over the holidays, so I am excited to help them get started. 4. Reading, sleeping, and watching TV in no particular order. It's been a long time since I have slept in and relaxed all day. I am looking forward to doing that and am currently scoping out some movies, shows, and books to do it with. Please share any ideas!
5. Shopping. I don't even want to talk about it. But let's just say I did not finish my shopping weeks ago and have to scramble last minute to buy gifts and somehow fit them in my suitcase. It should be interesting to say the least.
