Today’s recipe just won’t be for everyone. That’s OK. But if you like oatmeal or have the faintest curiosity, I recommend giving it a try because it just may sneak up and surprise you. I was shocked in a good way. Lately I have been seeing some savory oatmeal recipes popping up, one in this cookbook, and my interest was sparked. There are lots of different routes you could go, Asian inspired with soy sauce is the most common, but I wanted to go in a different direction with ham and cheese. Seemed pretty safe for the first go round and I loved it. Next time I will definitely add some more veggies, probably spinach or zucchini, and the mustard is completely optional. I personally am a mustard fanatic (I probably have 15+ kinds in the fridge) so I think its great, but it isn’t necessary at all.
