ometimes I wonder how many minutes a day I waste staring idly into my fridge. Sometimes its pure boredom, sometimes I think something delicious will magically appear, and sometimes it is in an effort to will my brain into creating a recipe. However this past Friday after about 10 minutes of idle staring, I decided to turn to the interwebs to find a recipe for the lonely chicken wings that had been hanging out in the freezer. As soon as I saw this Sweet and Spicy Hot Wing recipe from Food and Wine, I knew I had to try it. It is a perfect balance of sweet and spicy from the wing sauce and hot pepper jelly and you will be amazed at how crispy the wings get even though they are oven baked. If you aren’t into spice, these wings are also delicious on their own.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 lbs chicken wings
  • 2 1/2 tbsp buffalo hot sauce
  • 1 tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp. hot pepper jelly, melted

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees.
  2. Toss the wings with the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  3. Place the wings on a baking sheet covered with foil and sprayed with cooking spray. Cook for 50 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  4. When wings finish cooking, melt the butter and hot pepper jelly in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Stir in the buffalo sauce. Toss wings to coat and serve extra sauce on the side.
