Friday Fives: Diet Friendly Ice Cream

I can never give up something completely when I am trying to eat healthy or diet. The results are ugly – like me eating pizza until I feel sick and can barely move. So for me, I generally have two philosophies for handling this. I either find a healthier replacement that satisfies the craving or eat less of the real thing. Ice cream is one of those foods for me but luckily there are a lot of great healthier alternatives. Here are some of my favorites, what are yours?

1. Starbucks’s Frappuccino Mocha Bar: 3 weight watcher points plus, 120 calories
If you love coffee, then you will love this ice cream pop. It is basically a mix between a fudgiscle and coffee ice cream, but more indulgent. The only downside, they are a little expensive so I usually only buy them when they go on sale.
2. Skinny Cow Mint with Fudge Cone: 4 weight watcher points plus, 150 calories
These remind me of delicious nutty buddies I used to get from the ice cream truck in my neighborhood. There is something great and nostalgic about the frozen cone. I like all the flavors they offer, but my favorite is the mint one.
3. Snickers Mini Ice Cream Bar: 3 weight watcher points plus, 90 calories
These are one of those treats that I find it just makes more sense to eat less of the real thing. I absolutely love Snickers and the frozen ice cream bars are a favorite indulgence. Luckily they came out with minis and I am completely satisfied after one.
4. McDonald’s Ice Cream Cone: 3 weight watcher points plus, 150 calories
I am addicted to McDonald’s ice cream cones and there have definitely been summer weeks where I have eaten one almost every day. For under a dollar and only 3 points, there is nothing better. One caution though is the serving size since it always seems to change. If it looks bigger than normal, make sure to add some extra points. I usually try to think of it as a 5 point treat to be safe.
5. TCBY Ruby Red Grapefruit Sorbet: 3 weight watcher points plus, 100 calories
When it’s hot and I want something refreshing, this is what I reach for. It has a nice balance of sweet and tart and is incredibly refreshing on a hot day. The only caution is with serving size. This is for a 1/2 cup of their soft serve yogurt.

I would add Healthy Choice Fudge Bars — 2 points of heaven! And they’re huge! The best part is they taste good. They satisfy my craving for chocolate too.
