How long did it take you to lose the weight? I've been losing the weight for almost two years. I started in August 2012. It's been slow but slow and steady wins the race! I'm still going and I have 11 lbs. left to lose.
Lightbulb Moment: I got back from holiday (two weeks camping) and I weighed myself, I decided then that I never wanted to see that number on the scales again... plus spending the whole summer in black leggings instead of shorts, skirts or pretty dresses wasn't at all fun or comfortable!
How did you do it? I followed the Weight Watchers plan, I've done it a few times before so I was confident with it and I knew it worked. It allows me to eat all of the foods I enjoy but within reason! I also have a food diary account on Instagram which is @alicefooddiary and everyone who I follow/follows me are full of support and encouragement.
What was the biggest challenge you faced? How did you overcome it? The biggest challenge I faced was the fact that I had numerous people join Weight Watchers with me and then they gave up after a few weeks. It was quite difficult to keep the motivation going when no-one else around me was dieting. What kept me motivated during those times was the fact that I didn't want to go back to how I was before. I always think about how far I've come and how hard I've worked to get where I am.
Another challenge was family get togethers. I'm very family orientated so we meet up often and being around tempting foods/drinks a long with meals out is a difficult situation for any dieter. For that, I'd always chose options (say it was a buffet) that I knew weren't too high in points or I'd eat beforehand so I wasn't that hungry when we got there. When we were going out for the meal, I will often look up the restaurant and see if I can find the nutritional information for the menu so I can work out the points of what I'm going to have first.
What was the single thing that helped you most along the way, especially when things got tough? The thing that kept me going was the compliments I was given by my family and friends, along with looking back through old photos and seeing how far I'd come.
How has your life changed since losing the weight? My confidence has grown a lot and I've noticed that I spend a lot more time and effort in my appearance. I just feel so much better within myself.
Exercise routine: I haven't/don't do much exercise within this diet, yet I have an active job. I work in a preschool so I'm on my feet all day, running around and keeping active. I also wear a pedometer to work and keep track of my steps and how many activity points I earn.
Favorite breakfast: On a weekend we always have something cooked. So my favorite weekend breakfast is a mini naan bread with Heinz curry beans and a poached egg. My favorite week day breakfast is the new Weetabix On The Go breakfast drinks, so useful when you're morning is rushed... and mine normally is!
Favorite snack: Its either strawberries or the Weight Watchers bars, their whole range is lovely.
Favorite dinner: My favorite dinner is home made spaghetti bolognese made with turkey mince (ground turkey).
Advice for someone just starting: Don't keep putting it off or making excuses. You've just got to think that you could be where you are a year from now either a couple of pounds lighter and happier with yourself or on the other hand you could be a couple of pounds heavier and feeling down about yourself.
Anything else that you would like to share: I'd just like to say that when dieting don't be so harsh on yourself when you go off track a little bit, my favorite thing to tell myself when I do so is "One bad meal won't make you fat, just like one good meal won't make you skinny."
