I sometimes yell at the TV a lot on Saturdays, and the only thing that will stop me from yelling dip and chips and veggies and more dip. But as dip is one of those things that it’s easy to eat pretty mindlessly, I like to at least start with low calorie and low point dips. I also almost always scoop my portion of dip and chips/veggies onto my plate and eat from there. There is no way I can estimate or control how much I eat when I dive in with everyone. When it gone from my plate, I’m done well maybe. Here are some of my favorites, perfect to serve up during the game, at a party, or just for a yummy snack. What are your favorites?
1. Creamy Feta Dill Spinach Dip: 1 P+ per 2 tbsp, 45 calories
Spinach dip is a classic and I love this twist with the feta cheese and dill. My favorite way to eat this yummy dip is with homemade pita chips, fresh cut veggies, or roasted veggies like asparagus and zucchini. You could even serve it with some a baked version of your favorite fried veggie, like these Panko Parmesan Asparagus.
2. Skinny Taco Dip: 1 serving, 2 P+, 59.2 calories
Every football party needs some version of taco dip and this is the best I have come across that has reduced fat and calories. I like to serve it up with baked tortilla chips. I prefer to make my own simply cut a bunch of corn tortillas in quarters, squeeze on a little lime juice and salt, and then bake in the oven, right on the rack, at 400 degrees until they crisp up. You can add any combo of spices, I just prefer lime and salt.
3. Caramelized Onion Dip: 1/4 cup, 2 P+, 68.5 calories
If you love onion dip and potato chips, this is going to be your new favorite dip. The onion flavor is rich and complex and since it is made with yogurt instead of mayo, it won’t ruin your diet. For it to stay at 2 pointsplus per serving, use 1 tbsp of olive, non fat Greek yogurt, and low fat sour cream. Serve it with veggies, baked chips, or even roasted potato wedges or oven fries. Honestly this dip would taste good on anything.
4. Black Bean and Poblano Dip: 1/4 cup, 1 P+, 59 calories
This is one of my favorite weight watcher created dips and you get a lot for just 1 pointsplus. For those who don’t have access to the WW site, all you do is blend 2 cups fresh poblano chili (seeded, deveined and chopped), 14.5 oz canned black beans, rinsed and drained, 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves, 1 tsp salt, 1 cup chopped scallions, 1 cup chopped tomatoes, and 2 Tbsp fresh lime juice. Serve up with baked tortilla chips or even just warmed up tortillas.
5. Bionico Fruit Dip: 2 tbsp, 1 P+, 47 calories
I wanted to include at least one sweet dip and this is one of my favorites and couldn’t be simpler. Just combine 1 cup of non fat Greek or regular yogurt with 1/2 cup non fat or low fat condensed milk. The result is a sweet and creamy fruit dip. Sprinkle some nuts or shredded coconut on top to spice it up.
