Sometimes it is just hard to stay on track, like two nights ago when I had a burrito covered in cheese and chips for dinner. During these times, sometimes what helps get me back on track is pulling out some of my favorite kitchen tools that either help me with portion control or make healthy versions of some of my favorite things. This list is just a start and there are tons of great products out there that can help. What are your favorites?
1. Meal Measure One Portion Control Tool
When I first started weight watchers and dieting, this was my silver bullet. I hated weighing foods and was awful at portion control. This handy little tool does all the hard thinking for you. Each container fits exactly 1 cup and has a 1/2 cup line as well, and the protein portion is a perfect "deck of cards size" which is the recommended 3-4 oz. It fits on almost any plate and honestly will keep you on track with portions without any measuring or weighing of foods. This little tool really helped me during my initial months of dieting and I pull it out anytime I feel myself overeating or slipping.
2. Make Your Own Gogurt
I love making my own popsicles and frozen treats, and love these little containers to make them. If you are familiar at all with gogurt, the kid's yogurt pops, these basically let you make your own. My preferred use for them is to mix up my favorite yogurt combinations, or just pour in sugar free pudding, and freeze them to make my own push-pops. My absolute favorite is recreating vanilla and chocolate swirl pudding pops by mixing together sugar free vanilla and chocolate pudding and freezing them.
3. Nordic Ware 60120 Microwaver Popcorn Popper 12 Cup
If you love popcorn, this microwave popcorn popper is for you. Not only will you save tons of money because you never have to buy prepackaged microwave popcorn, you can create endless combinations and flavors and completely control the fat and ingredients you use. You can also control portions and cook any amount of popcorn you want. Perfect for quick and healthy snacking.
4. Mini Doughnut Pan
Doughnuts are a huge weakness for me and I am so excited about this mini doughnut pan I just bought. It comes with tons of recipes and allows you to bake cute little doughnuts that won't ruin your diet. Recipes will definitely be coming soon for this great mini doughnut pan. I m already drooling thinking about mini pumpkin doughnuts, chocolate doughnuts, and my favorite as a kid, blueberry cake doughnuts.
5. Bento Lunch Boxes
Lastly, for lunches on the go, I love bento lunch boxes. They come with built in portion control and enough containers to fit all kinds of snacks, fruits, and veggies. It makes it extremely easy to quickly pack a great and healthy lunch, and allows you to pack a lot of food, which is important to me in any lunch container.
