Baked Sweet and Spicy Wings

Sometimes I wonder how many minutes a day I waste staring idly into my fridge. Sometimes its pure boredom, sometimes I think something delicious will magically appear, and sometimes it is in an effort to will my brain into creating a recipe. However this past Friday after about 10 minutes of idle staring, I decided to turn to the interwebs to find a recipe for the lonely chicken wings that had been hanging out in the freezer. As soon as I saw this Sweet and Spicy Hot Wing recipe from Food and Wine, I knew I had to try it. It is a perfect balance of sweet and spicy from the wing sauce and hot pepper jelly and you will be amazed at how crispy the wings get even though they are oven baked. If you aren’t into spice, these wings are also delicious on their own.

5 Response to Baked Sweet and Spicy Wings

These look great! I’m not a bone-in wing fan…could I sub chicken tenders? Also, what is hot pepper jelly? Can I find in a regular supermarket?

    • Kristen on August 6, 2013

I think chicken tenders would work great and be even lower calorie if you used boneless/skinless. I would just reduce the cooking time to 12-18 minutes since they will cook so much quicker.

  2. Bethany on August 9, 2013

50 minutes of cooking at such a high temp seems so long for just wings…

  3. Jamie on October 6, 2013

I had them in for 20 mins then flipped and then only 10 mins more and they were done. They could probably be in there for even less time.

  4. Leni on February 3, 2014

Best healthy wings I have ever had. 50 minutes was beyond perfect cooking time if cooking from frozen!

    Thank you!
